Testing and Certification
It is required that all households and companies ensure that their environment is safe, including their electrical installation and all electrical equipment.
Some Insurance companies are also becoming more involved insisting that their clients have their electrical installation checked before they will provide cover.
Other safety organisations such as HSE and the local authority may become involved.
Many landlords are also finding that their letting agency, housing association or Management Company is demanding to see test certificates.
Two types of test are normally necessary:
- Periodic Inspection report For Electrical Installation (PIR).
A PIR tests the electrical installation for compliance with BS7671(the IEE wiring Regulation) and is a comprehensive test involving specialised test equipment and trained technicians. The resulting report details any deficiencies, these being graded according to importance, Thus allowing any necessary remedial work to be organised.
- Portable Appliance Testing (PAT).
A PAT tests all electrical appliances for safety, using specialised test equipment. All electrical equipment which plugs into a socket outlet can be tested in this way, from PCs to fridges and radios.
(The PAT testing service is not provided by Gof-Tek Electrical.)
